Temples in Sikar – An Introduction

Temples in Sikar Rajasthan IndiaMandir

Among all the districts of Rajasthan, Sikar holds a rare distinction — it is home to not one but three of the most visited sacred temples in North India, each drawing millions of devotees every year from across the country. The temples in Sikar District are not quiet, contemplative shrines. They are living pilgrimage centres, loud with devotion, packed on festival days, and deeply woven into the faith of ordinary families across Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, and beyond. Salasar Balaji Temple is perhaps the most famous temple in Sikar — a Hanuman temple of such spiritual reputation that devotees travel hundreds of kilometres on foot during major festivals just to receive darshan. Khatu Shyam Ji Temple at Khatu, dedicated to Barbarika — the grandson of Bhima who is worshipped here as Shyam — has grown into one of the fastest-rising pilgrimage destinations in northern India, its fame spreading through devotional communities at a pace that few sacred temples in Rajasthan can match. Jeenmata Temple, perched in the Aravalli hills near Rewari, is one of the oldest Shakti shrines in the region, her legend and her following both predating most of what we now call modern Rajasthan. The sacred temples of Sikar carry a living, breathing faith — and IndiaMandir is documenting each one in full detail.
